Iran’s Pezeshkian Meets Khamenei Amid Fears of Fresh US-Iran Escalation - Iranian Prez Masoud Pezeshkian met Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei in late July, as per Iranian state media, Reuters reported. The meeting reportedly took place around the start of Pezeshkian’s third year in office. Discussions focused on military affairs, the economy, foreign exchange management, energy use, and ties with foreign partners. The meeting comes amid prospects of further escalations between US and Iran as a preliminary deal fell apart. Pezeshkian has given differing accounts of access to Khamenei, saying in July that interactions were increasing, but later describing communication as “very difficult”. Mojtaba Khamenei has not been seen publicly since succeeding his father, Ali Khamenei, in March, fueling speculation about his health.
