Pakistan’s Naqvi delivers Muni-Shehbaz’s ‘special letter’ for Mojtaba Khamenei to Iranian FM - Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi delivered a letter for Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei during talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi in Tehran on June 7, as mediation efforts to end the three-month war between Iran and the United States appeared to have stalled.The letter, which Iran's semi-official ISNA news agency said Naqvi described as a "special letter" from Pakistan's army chief Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to Khamenei. Pakistan has been mediating largely indirect negotiations between Washington and Tehran on an interim deal that would halt the fighting and defer questions, including Iran's nuclear programme, to further talks. Islamabad has intensified mediation efforts as the nation’s previous two attempts to intermediate failed badly. The much hyped Islamabad Talks failed to produce any positive outcome whereas the second bid to hold peace talks never materialised ever since then a peace deal has remained elusive while both US and Iran having periodic skirmishes. An adviser to Khamenei, Mohsen Rezaei, told CNN that a peace deal hinged on the release of $24 billion in frozen Iranian assets wrote Reuters.
