West Bengal Sports Minister resigns after Messi tour chaos at Kolkata’s Salt Lake stadium - West Bengal Sports Minister Aroop Biswas resigned on Tuesday following the chaos during footballer Lionel Messi's GOAT India Tour in Kolkata, with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accepting his resignation. The West Bengal Governor, CV Ananda Bose, had demanded Biswas step down and urged action against officials with “vicarious liability” for the incident. A Special Investigation Team of IPS officers Piyush Pandey, Javed Shamim, Supratim Sarkar, and Muralidhar has been formed to probe the matter, while notices were served to DGP Rajeev Kumar and Commissioner of Police Bidhannagar Mukesh Kumar to explain lapses in event management. Departmental proceedings were initiated against DCP Aneesh Sarkar, and the services of VYBK CEO Deb Kumar Nandan were withdrawn. The event, held at Salt Lake Stadium, descended into chaos as frustrated fans, upset over poor management and VIP attention monopolizing Messi, vandalized property.
