France's Macron names veteran centrist ally Francois Bayrou as PM, Parisians vent their frustration - Europe’s 2nd biggest economy France is heading straight into a brewing political, and financial crisis as 2024 draws to a close. French PM Michel Barnier was ousted by a vote of no-confidence by opposition lawmakers in the National Assembly on Dec 4. This marks the first time in over 60 years, that a French government got toppled by a no-confidence vote. After the ousting of PM Barnier, Macron pledged to appoint a new PM in the coming days. Recently, President Macron named centrist veteran Francois Bayrou as France's new prime minister. Bayrou replaces Michel Barnier who resigned last week after far-right and leftist lawmakers voted to topple the government. France's incoming PM Bayrou said that he was aware of his task to steer a government in a deeply divided country. Bayrou is expected to put forward his list of ministers in the coming days but is likely to face the same difficulties as Barnier.
