‘Giving prize to murderers…’ Israel furious as West’s voice grows louder to recognize Palestine - As the Israel-Hamas conflict entered its eighth month, some NATO countries announced a historic and largely symbolic move. Ireland, Spain, and Norway announced on May 22 that they would recognize the Palestinian state on May 28. The countries now hope other Western countries would follow suit, prompting Israel to recall its ambassadors. The announcement came as chief prosecutor of International Criminal Court sought arrest warrant for Israeli PM Netanyahu. The prosecutor charged the Israeli PM and Defence Minister with “genocide” that Israel has strenuously denied. As the decision was welcomed by Palestine, Israel denounced the recognition move and called it a ‘Prize to Murderers’. Meanwhile, Spain's PM Pedro Sanchez said that the recognition move aimed at accelerating efforts to secure a ceasefire in the war. Norwegian PM Jonas Gahr Store said that the only possible solution between two countries is to "live side by side in peace and security". Ireland Prime Minister Simon Harris said that Ireland was unequivocal in recognizing Israel's right to exist.
