“Friends of India…” EAM Jaishankar extends condolences to Prez Raisi, FM Hossein at Iranian embassy - In a major mishap, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi died as his helicopter suffered an accident on May 19 near Azerbaijan border. President Raisi along with FM Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and high-ranking officials lost lives in the tragic incident. Following Prez Raisi’s death, External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar visited Iranian Embassy on May 21 and extended condolences. Jaishankar paid tribute and said, “They will always be remembered as friends of India; India stands in solidarity with the people of Iran”. India on May 21 also extended its condolences to Iran and the president’s family ‘in the time of sorrow’ and observed a day-long national mourning. As India observed a day-long national mourning, Tricolour at national buildings flew at half-mast. While speaking at a public event on May 20, EAM lauded the role of Raisi and Amir-Abdollahian in securing long-term deal to manage Chabahar Port.
